When the Rabba family contacted us, they were looking for a way to enclose their outdoor alfresco area. While this is something that our company does regularly, the difference with this project was the shape of the area.
The Space
The Rabba family live in a beautiful home nestled in the leafy bayside suburb of Brighton.
Known for its large, high-end homes that offer space and tranquillity for city commuters. The Rabba family love to entertain and had their alfresco area tastefully furnished with all the latest mod-cons to make for a lovely extension of their indoor living space.
The Problem
However, the area was fully exposed to the elements, which meant it was dusty and dirty and mostly unusable during the winter months.
When John called Clear Edge Glass he spoke to Tacita and had a long chat about how the family used the space.
John wanted to close the area with glass but be able to fully open the area on those rare but beautiful Melbourne summer days.
The Solution
“Yes, we absolutely could help, but this was not going to be an easy job,” recalls Tacita. “The area is a semi-circular space with no straight sections, so we would need to create a system that could curve with the opening.”
It took a number of visits to the site by Archie and our Clear Edge Glass team to create a full template in the factory, take it back to the site, and lay it out. Lydia was very hesitant, so the template was a great way to help her envision the project.
The Result
“I think the results speak for themselves,” says Tacita. “What has been created here is simply superb.”
Clear Edge Glass was able to create a curved glass wall that enclosed the outdoor space fully. This gave John and Lydia a perfect space to entertain guests and furnish with confidence, as it is fully protected from the elements.
“But the best part is the way the glass panels retract back to reopen the space,” says John. “I love it! It exceeded my expectations. What an incredible space Archie created for us.”
