FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the glass you use in your Clear Edged Glass panel safe?

Absolutely! Every CLEAR EDGE GLASS  panel uses Grade A Safety glass, manufactured to AS/NZS2208 for use in buildings. This glass is manufactured by heating and then rapidly cooling float glass. Toughened safety glass is able to bow (bend) without breaking under extreme pressure. However, if the clear edged glass does break, it shatters into tiny squares – just like your car side windows.

2. What is Low-E glass and can you use it in your Clear Edged Frameless Retractable Glass?

Yes we can! Low Emissivity (Low-E) Glass has a special thin layer of metallic oxide coating that allows the passage of short wave solar energy into a building, but prevents long wave energy produced by heating systems and lighting from escaping outside. Low-E glass allows light to enter while still providing thermal insulation. Frameless glass doors can be treated to be Low E.

3. What are the sliding door tracks made of?

All our sliding door tracks are extruded locally and made of the highest quality aluminium.

Aluminium is used for its durability and low maintenance. The corrosion resistant qualities of aluminium provide a low maintenance frame and is resistant to weathering under a range of harsh environmental conditions. Unlike many other materials, it will not swell, crack, split or warp over time; ensuring an extended product life. Making it perfect for our sliding door tracks

4. What is powder coating?

Powder Coating is how the aluminium sliding door tracks are coloured. Powder coating is a dry finishing process that has become extremely popular. Powder coating is known for its high-quality, durable finish, allowing for maximized production, improved efficiency, and simplified environmental compliance. Used as functional (protective) and decorative finishes, powder coatings are available in an almost limitless range of colours and textures, and technological advancements have resulted in excellent performance properties. UV resistant finishes protect the aluminium and are easy to maintain. Depending on the specifications and requirements of the installation, warranties are offered and range from 5 years to 15 years.

All our sliding door tracks are Powder Coated or Anodized.

5. What colour can my Clear Edge glass sliding doors be powder coated in?

Our sliding door tracks are Powder Coating out of house at a recognized facility, using Dulux products. There are industry standard colours but the full colour range is extensive and we will match our sliding door tracks with your existing windows and doors.

See the full range of Dulux colours here.

6. Why do you sometimes refer to your Clear Edge Glass as sliding stacking glass and Clear Edge Frameless Retractable Glass?

The correct word would be Clear Edged Glass, as each glass panel has a clear vertical edge.

It really comes down to “just a name” mainly in Europe it is referred to a frameless glass or frameless glass stacking sliding doors, however, in Australia the term frameless glass is mainly used for shower frames. Therefore, us Aussies call it a Clear Edged Frameless Retractable Glass

7. What is the difference between bi fold doors and frameless retractable glass doors?

Bi fold doors are framed and hinged together, they concertina and stack to one side. Bi fold doors have vertical frames around each glass panel.

Frameless glass bifold doors – this is a name used incorrectly but none the less it is used – as frameless glass cannot be hinged together.

8. Can Clear Edge Glass  be fitted retrospectively?

Yes!
